State's Attorney Issues Statement on Conviction of MTA Bus Shooter

August 8, 2025

Baltimore, Md. (August 8, 2025) - “Today, defendant James Richburg was found guilty of Murder in the Second Degree, Use of a Firearm in a Crime of Violence, and Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person for shooting William Womack in broad daylight on an MTA bus. This egregious act of violence is despicable and completely unacceptable and stands as a stark reminder that we must reject any form of brutality in Baltimore. Since day one of my administration, I have been adamant that carrying an illegal firearm is an incredibly dangerous offense that I take very seriously because it leads to deadly outcomes like what we saw in this case. I want to commend ASA Brent Weinberg for ensuring this offender is held accountable for the deplorable choices he made.” – Ivan J. Bates, State’s Attorney
