Woman Sentenced to 140 Years for Fatally Shooting Grandmother and Two Others, Including an 11-Year-Old Child

October 14, 2026

Baltimore, Md. (October 14, 2026) - Today, Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates announced that Defendant Cassandra McRae was sentenced to 150 years, suspending all but 140 years, with the first 25 years without the possibility of parole, and three years of supervised probation upon release. The Defendant was found guilty of murder in the second degree, four counts of conspiracy to commit murder, four counts of attempted murder in the second degree, five counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony or crime of violence, and reckless endangerment. Assistant State’s Attorney Megan Gallo prosecuted this case.

“A sentence of 140 years reflects the devastating consequences of this Defendant’s actions. Her willingness to engage in conduct that took the life of a grandmother and injured two other people, including an 11-year-old child, demonstrates a shocking disregard for human life and the safety of innocent children,” said State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates. “There was no rational justification for putting so many lives at risk, and the consequences of that reckless violence will forever be felt by the victims, their families, and our community. We remain committed to holding violent offenders accountable and ensuring that those who inflict such senseless harm are no longer free to terrorize our residents.”

On January 22, 2025, Baltimore Police were notified of a shooting at the 5400 block of York Road involving multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds inside a Honda CRV. Upon arrival, detectives learned that one of the victims, Anntoinette Jennings, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Four other individuals were inside the same vehicle as Ms. Jennings. Two of those victims were shot, including an 11-year-old child; the two additional victims, including a six-year-old child, were unharmed.

The investigation revealed there was an altercation at a children’s basketball game involving the victim’s family and a woman who was later identified as Cassandra McRae. McRae can be seen in the footage leaving the game while making a phone call. She entered a grey sedan, which followed the victims’ vehicle to the scene of the shooting. CCTV footage showed McRae exit the sedan and approach the victims’ vehicle at the rear passenger side. At the same time, two additional male suspects approached the victims’ vehicle at the driver’s side. McRae touched the vehicle’s rear quarter panel and stated: “There they go right there, there they go right there.” Seconds later, shots were fired into the victims’ vehicle by one of the male suspects. All three suspects then fled the scene.

During the course of the investigation, Tavon Singleton was identified as one of the male suspects. Singleton was ultimately acquitted of all charges.
