Crime victims have the right to submit what are known as victim impact statements, and the State's Attorney's Office strongly encourages victims to exercise this important right.

The judge can consider this statement when sentencing the defendant. You should be advised, however, that once you submit your statement, it becomes part of the criminal case file. Meaning, the Judge, prosecutor, probation officer, defendant and their attorney, will all receive a copy.

The following is a standard victim impact statement form that can be completed and submitted online. Complete as much of the following document as you can. When you have finished, be sure to read over the document and then hit the send button to submit it. You may fill out the form or it may be helpful to write your statement in the form of a letter to the judge. If you write a separate letter, please still upload it with this form so that we have the pertinent case information.
