Attorney (Assistant State’s Attorney)
A career as an Assistant State’s Attorney (ASA) is designed for those attorneys committed to public service and the pursuit of justice. ASAs handle adult prosecutions and juvenile delinquency hearings for crimes in Baltimore City. Entry-level positions are typically filled by recent law school graduates, judicial law clerks, and members of the BCSAO Honors Law Clerk Program. Entry level ASAs must be members of the Maryland State Bar.
Non-Attorney
Join a team of over 200 administrative and support staff who keep the office running effectively. These roles support casework, operations, and coordination across units, helping ensure services and prosecutions move forward efficiently. Non-attorney positions play a critical role in supporting attorneys and maintaining the day-to-day functions of the office.
Law Clerk
Work alongside Assistant State’s Attorneys on investigations, hearings, and trials, conducting legal research, and drafting motions. Law Clerks are assigned to work in one of the trial units. This full-time, benefitted role is open to 2L/3L students, recent graduates, and newly admitted attorneys. Law Clerks are often considered first for open Assistant State’s Attorney positions.
Undergraduate Internship
Build firsthand experience in a prosecutor’s office while supporting one unit for the duration of the internship. This unpaid program is designed to cultivate the interest of undergraduate students in the role of a prosecutor in Baltimore City and create a pipeline for prospective employees. Interns are required to work a minimum of 16 hours per week. In some cases, based on the needs of the office, students may split time between two units.
