Omar Passmore was sentenced to Life for the fatal shooting of Breaunna Cormley

Baltimore, Md. (June 24, 2025) – Today, the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City announced that defendant Omar Passmore has pled guilty to First Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Crime of Violence. He was sentenced to Life with an additional 20 years that will be served concurrently. Assistant State’s Attorney Victoria Yeager prosecuted this case. Passmore fatally shot 12-year-old Breaunna Cormley, his girlfriend’s daughter, on July 19, 2024, at the 500 block of N. Kenwood Avenue.

“There is nothing redeemable about a person who would intentionally take the life of an innocent child. This defendant has demonstrated a complete lack of humanity, morals, and conscience by using the murder of a young girl as a tool of punishment against her mother,” said State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates. “As the City’s top prosecutor, it is indisputable to me that he deserves to spend the rest of his life behind bars. As a father, my heart knows he deserves much worse. I am thankful that this plea has spared the family from having to endure the trauma of testifying at a trial while still safeguarding the public.”

On Friday, July 19, 2024, at approximately 8:13 p.m., the Baltimore Police Department’s Homicide Unit was called to the 500 block of N. Kenwood Avenue for a fatal shooting. Upon arrival, detectives found 12-year-old Breaunna Cormley deceased on the first floor of the home with obvious gunshot wounds to her body.

During the investigation, witnesses identified Omar Passmore, who was home alone with the victim at the time of the shooting. Loud yelling could be heard coming from inside the residence while the defendant and the victim were inside before the shooting occurred. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on the victim and determined that the manner of her death was homicide and the cause of death was two close-range gunshot wounds to her neck and head.

On Sunday, July 21, 2024, the Baltimore County Police located and arrested the defendant. At the time of the arrest, the defendant was in possession of a backpack which contained a .380 caliber handgun loaded with three .380 rounds. Forensic testing later determined that the handgun recovered was the gun used to shoot and kill the victim. After being advised of and waiving his rights, the defendant spoke with detectives and confessed to shooting the victim with the same gun he was arrested with because he was upset with her mother.
